A Friend of Mine…Pam Sani Part 2

For you my Friends,

Well, I promised to fill you in on Pam’s Jewelry Show.  Pam did well  though not as well as I had hoped.   I had been so excited and wanted Pam to do Super, Fantastic.   She passed on some insights that she learned through the process of this show and I thought I would pass them on to you.

Level of Preparedness:

1) To have a Great Show you need to be well prepared…from business cards to pricing.  You need plenty of stock, plenty of promotion and plenty of smiles.
2) Be honest with yourself about how much effort is required to: create your items, prepare them for sale, and to promote your event PLUS your level of willingness to do it .  If you are not up for it either get some help or reschedule, because it’s a lot of work!
3) Shift your focus from what you want, to what your customer needs:  from what you create, to pricing, to presentation it’s all about your customers.  So, make it attractive to them in every way.
4)  Once you’re prepared and everything is in order, enjoy your customers!  Have fun and those perfect customers will come to you!   AND Finally…
 5) Don’t give up!  All the hard work pays off.
These ideas have been very helpful to me as I am preparing for my own fall shows.  There is still a lot of work ahead so keep your chin up and just do the next thing!
Have a Great Week!

A Friend of Mine…Pam Sani

Hi All, Happy Monday!

I know, I know!  I’m really just trying to get myself into a good mind-set to face another week.  How do you prepare yourself for the new week?

I have told you about my friend Pam before.  She is a brave soul!  Last Friday she had a jewelry show in her home.  She worked  so hard preparing for it.   I hope she got a really good return on all her hard work.  She has a good core group of people who come just to see what she makes and they buy from her too.  Can you imagine?  Imagine having repeat business…what a dream.  Just starting out I don’t even have a mailing list.  I would just send an invitation to everyone I know.  That’s about 6 people, ha ha ha.  She has had shows before so it is not as big of deal for her as it is for me but still there is a lot of work that goes into something like that and I know she wants to have good sales as well as a good time.

I’m scared to death to take on something like that, but as you know, anything I’m scared of I wind up walking right into eventually.  So, there is a fall fund-raiser at my church each year called “The Holly & the Ivy”.  I have looked into possibly setting up a table and selling my jewelry there in October.  We will see what happens and if I can pull this off.  It would be a great way just to get my jewelry out there to be seen in the community.

I’ll Keep you posted.

As for Pam…She’s a veteran jewelry show seller  and after having to take some time off she is just getting back into her groove.  I can’t wait to hear how well she did!  I’ll be sure to let you know too.

Have a Great Week!

A Friend of Mine…My Dad

Hello Monday!

As you well know if you follow my blog, I have worked very hard this summer trying to get my son, Keith into a day program of some sort.  Well I had just about given up hope when my Dad offered to take
Keith swimming twice a week.  This gives both of us a break from one another which we both really need.  So last week and this week I had added to my schedule training Keith to go swimming.

That probably sounds really funny but anytime Keith goes into a new situation it takes some time to get him into a new routine.  So, of course, mom, that’s me, gets to train Keith into “how we go swimming with Papa”.  First, he had to get back into getting up early, then riding with grandma to her work to be picked up by Papa and then go to this new place he had never been before and so on and so forth.  Every little detail has to be accounted for because if Keith doesn’t feel safe he will never let me fade out and not go along.  Surprisingly enough things went really well with only a few little hiccups along the way.

I think Keith was ready to change his routine because he was bored with being at home all summer long.  So that made this easy to work through.  Yay!  So next week is the trial week.  Keith is going to go with Grandma and Papa will pick him up and go swim and bring Keith home all without me.  I can’t wait!  About 3 hours without Keith.  We have been together all day, everyday since May 30th with the only exception of the hour or so that I go grocery shopping once a week (because Keith doesn’t really like to go to the grocery store).

We both need Keith’s services to get started.  It has been a long summer, but there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.  I got a call from Keith’s Social Worker saying she is getting all his paperwork together.  This is good news.  I pray things get started soon.

I have to thank my Dad for helping us…Thanks Dad!

A Friend of Mine…God

Hi,

Did you ever talk with God and say “You have to work this out because I don’t see the way I am supposed to go”, and then an answer just falls in your lap?  Well let me tell you what happened.

A couple of days ago I asked God to give me direction for Keith’s future as all the things that I set up completely fell apart and I didn’t know what to do.  So I asked God to show me what to do.

Then this morning “the coordinator” from a local program that I looked into before Keith graduated, called me out of the blue and said that there is an opening in the program and we may be able to get Keith in, so I called Keith’s social worker.  She said she would call “the coordinator” and talk with her.  I haven’t heard back yet but who knows, this just might be the program for him.  It is a very good program from a great local university and I know Keith would be very successful in this program.  So, I am waiting to see what happens.  Please keep us in prayer.

I believe that everything will work out.  I believe the right program will come to light.  And I believe that Keith will get into the program that will be a perfect fit for him.  I know this with all my being, I just pray that it won’t take much longer.  It’s funny how when I stopped trying to figure it all out and asked for help God made things happen, not that I haven’t asked before but as the saying goes, Timing is everything.

What are you waiting for?  Have you done all you can do?  Has it all fallen apart?  Maybe it’s time to stop trying, and ask for help.  You never know, you just might have the answer fall right into your lap.

Just like these bracelets that Keith made.  Who knew he had such a knack for making jewelry.  He put all of these together by himself except the one on the far right which was his first so I helped him.  Amazing what just “falls into your lap” when the timing is right.  I am so proud of him and his good work.

Successful Business People’s Weekends

Happy Monday Everyone,

I hope you all had a great weekend.  I recently read an article about how successful business people spend their weekends.  I wish I could find the link for you but I can’t seem to find it, sorry.

The article talked about how successful business people know that the best way to be prepared for work on Monday is to use their weekends doing things that rejuvenate them.  From Friday at 6pm to Monday at 6am there are 60 hours for you to do all the things that will refresh you and prepare you for a new week.

You should do things that you have to do during the week as much as possible and only those chores that you can’t do another time, on the weekend.  You should limit “have-to’s”  to only a couple of hours on the weekend.  Spend the rest of your time enjoying what you love, like gardening, sailing, or spending quality time with family and friends.  Schedule time so it will be comfortable for you.  Get that extra rest you need, read that book you have been dying to open, or just play with your children/grandchildren, but no business!  No laptops, No email and No Business calls!  The time is yours so ENJOY!  (If you do get a brainstorm got down a few notes and put it away.)

The article suggested that you just brainstorm and write down everything you can think of including all the big and little things you would like to do, places you would like to visit, people you would like to spend time with and books you would like to read.

This weekend, plan a day trip, go to the movies, go to church or go visit your mom.  Take Time for Yourself, you deserve it, you need it and it’s yours!  So tell me, what are you going to do this weekend?

This is a beautiful spot at a local park that I enjoy visiting.

Have a Great Week Planning your Weekend!

A New Friend of Mine

Hello Everyone,

As I sit here waiting for my son during music therapy, I wonder what in the world I am going to write about.  Then something hits me…

I just found a blog that you might be interested in.  This blog is written by a young women, Erin Boyle who literally lives  in a  tiny apartment that is only 240 square feet in New York City.  And you think that’s not soooo bad until I tell you that she lives with her boyfriend too.  The two of them share 240 sq ft.  THAT’S TINY!!!  My bedroom is 200 sq. ft. 10ft x 20ft.

However she describes how to live like this happily in her blog reading my tea leaves.  She has some really great ideas for organization, surprise, and a refreshing way of looking at things.  She describes how she only keeps the things she really loves and discards anything that she really doesn’t need.

What a difference in comparison to the typical American lifestyle.  The article that I read about her and her boyfriend is not one of complaining and loss but of freedom and happiness.  She reports that she loves her apartment!  And think how quick cleaning must be with 1 and a half rooms plus a bathroom.

I don’t know about you but I know I could really use a cleaning out of my spaces.  The problem is I start and then get stuck, usually by running out of time before completing my task.  If I got rid of all of the stuff that I really don’t need like those books taking up space on my shelves that I intended to read but never got to, or the clothes in and out of the closet that I have been meaning to take to Goodwill, plus the stuff that I don’t really know what to do with.  My spaces would be fantastic!!!

You have to understand that my room is the house catch all.  Everything goes into my room at some point.  Even groceries wind up in my room sometimes.  I can’t figure out how that happens.  But anything that does not have a home winds up in my room.  Yes, my room is…dare I say it, a pig sty.  There I said it for the whole world to see.  But I keep getting rid of things and it keeps filling up. I swear I have help filling up my room.

The problem is that I hate it this way.  It makes me grumpy and less productive.  I want to clean out and get rid of stuff.  I want my spaces tidy.

Ok, here comes the hard part…

So I’m going to start again.  I am going to clean my room.  I’m going to set one day a week…um, Tuesday morning.  Every Tuesday morning I am going to get up a little earlier and spend one hour tidying up my spaces , especially my room.

I am going to clean my room and I want you to hold me to it.  I am going to get rid of stuff that is just taking up valuable space that I need to utilize.  What I can sell, I will sell.  What I can’t, I will give away or throw away.  I will not make piles to deal with later.  I will deal with them the first time.  My GOAL is to have this complete by the end of summer.

You heard it here. Now…where do I start?  I think I will look at this pile…Hey, Look what I found!

A Friend of Mine…Margaret Almon 2

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you all had a good weekend.  I didn’t realize how tired I was until I stopped and then I got some much-needed sleep.  Thank the Lord for weekends when you can get some extra rest.

So, you remember a friend of mine…Margaret Almon, she and I are working on a project together called Mosaic Matches.  She makes all kinds of mosaics including pendants which are absolutely beautiful.  And I am going to be making matching earrings.  So now that I am opening my Etsy shop today  there are already a few Mosaic Matches there to choose from  and I am going to regularly post as many as I can.  If you are a lucky owner of one of her pendants and it doesn’t yet have a match contact me and I will be glad to design one just for you.

Please check out both our stores on Etsy:  Margaret’s Nutmeg Designs http://www.etsy.com/shop/nutmegdesigns/ and My A Jewelry Masterpiece for You http://www.etsy.com/shop/AJewelryMasterpiece
