Getting Unstuck

Hi Everyone,

Well I know I have talked a lot lately about being stuck.  So, I decided to tell you about getting unstuck too.

I have had a lot of good suggestions come my way from push through, to take a break.  I have to admit that I tried almost all of your suggestions.  But there were a couple that really helped me and that is what I want to tell you about.

First, I saw a really great video interview on being stuck with Jenn Lee (author of RBBP) and Right-Brain Business Plan® licensed facilitator Amy Egenberger: (Making way for creative action, Amy Egenberger, MEd., CPCC is an educator, life coach, artist and founder of Spirit Out! Coaching.).  They gave some really great ideas but it was in listening to this conversation that I realized that the reason I was stuck was because I just finished a big project and was exhausted as well as needing to reframe and set a new goal.

I felt like I was floundering a bit and kind of lost my way.  It really helped me to hear that this was normal and all I really needed was some (a lot of) rest and to pause, reframe and catch my breath after completing the opening of my etsy shop.  That really helped me let myself off the hook for slowing down.  I needed to slow down and get the rest.

Second, I did not recognize that I had fear in stepping into my new website.  Fear can make me feel stuck, but in making one little change, like breathing, I found help.  One little step forward can loosen things up and as I was feeling stuck it helped me to do something different, like actually creating some jewelry.  It was just a simple bracelet and earring set but it really helped me to breath and relax.  Guess What?  It was really fun too!

I needed to acknowledge that this is a normal pause in the cycle of creativity.  I didn’t even know that there was a cycle of creativity, let alone what that cycle looks like.  Now that I have calmed down (pretty much) I need to ask myself,  “What do I need now?”.  (Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.)

I Need to Create More!  It is THE part of my business I really  love and I felt  blocked by this “stuckness”. Breathing is helping me to restore the flow of my creativity.  Now I want to create again and I’m excited to work on an idea I’ve been toying with, instead of making it feeling like drudgery.

Finally, having really great, supportive friends and family helps the most.  They are the ones that I am able to bounce my ideas off and they tell me honestly when they stink.  More than that they have been the ones who have told me to take a break, slow down, and give it some time.  Guess what?  You all were right!  Rest, refocusing, changing gears, doing something different and giving my brain a well deserved break was just what I needed (& still need).

Thank you all.  I really needed your wise advise.

Next…I’m going to CREATE!  How great is that?  I want to throw myself into my creative work and prepare for some jewelry shows.

Have A Super Great Weekend!

A New Friend of Mine

Hello Everyone,

As I sit here waiting for my son during music therapy, I wonder what in the world I am going to write about.  Then something hits me…

I just found a blog that you might be interested in.  This blog is written by a young women, Erin Boyle who literally lives  in a  tiny apartment that is only 240 square feet in New York City.  And you think that’s not soooo bad until I tell you that she lives with her boyfriend too.  The two of them share 240 sq ft.  THAT’S TINY!!!  My bedroom is 200 sq. ft. 10ft x 20ft.

However she describes how to live like this happily in her blog reading my tea leaves.  She has some really great ideas for organization, surprise, and a refreshing way of looking at things.  She describes how she only keeps the things she really loves and discards anything that she really doesn’t need.

What a difference in comparison to the typical American lifestyle.  The article that I read about her and her boyfriend is not one of complaining and loss but of freedom and happiness.  She reports that she loves her apartment!  And think how quick cleaning must be with 1 and a half rooms plus a bathroom.

I don’t know about you but I know I could really use a cleaning out of my spaces.  The problem is I start and then get stuck, usually by running out of time before completing my task.  If I got rid of all of the stuff that I really don’t need like those books taking up space on my shelves that I intended to read but never got to, or the clothes in and out of the closet that I have been meaning to take to Goodwill, plus the stuff that I don’t really know what to do with.  My spaces would be fantastic!!!

You have to understand that my room is the house catch all.  Everything goes into my room at some point.  Even groceries wind up in my room sometimes.  I can’t figure out how that happens.  But anything that does not have a home winds up in my room.  Yes, my room is…dare I say it, a pig sty.  There I said it for the whole world to see.  But I keep getting rid of things and it keeps filling up. I swear I have help filling up my room.

The problem is that I hate it this way.  It makes me grumpy and less productive.  I want to clean out and get rid of stuff.  I want my spaces tidy.

Ok, here comes the hard part…

So I’m going to start again.  I am going to clean my room.  I’m going to set one day a week…um, Tuesday morning.  Every Tuesday morning I am going to get up a little earlier and spend one hour tidying up my spaces , especially my room.

I am going to clean my room and I want you to hold me to it.  I am going to get rid of stuff that is just taking up valuable space that I need to utilize.  What I can sell, I will sell.  What I can’t, I will give away or throw away.  I will not make piles to deal with later.  I will deal with them the first time.  My GOAL is to have this complete by the end of summer.

You heard it here. Now…where do I start?  I think I will look at this pile…Hey, Look what I found!

What A Whirlwind…

Hello Everyone,

What a whirlwind this week has been.  Opening the shop, trying to keep adding more items, and the 4th of July plus a heat wave in the North East that promises to keep going at least through the weekend.  I have had it!  The heat is bad enough but I have a very hard time with the humidity.  I can’t wait for this to break.  Thank God for AC!

So what do you do when your brain has had it and you still have work to do?  I have miles to go before I sleep.  This week is a long week because of the holiday taking time out of the middle and having more work to stuff into less time.

So here are some of the things I have worked on…

Custom Sterling Silver & Aquamarine Crystal

Custom Stardust Sterling Silver & Aquamarine Crystal Earrings

Custom Glass Pearls, Glass Seed Beads & Ribbon Tri-Strand

Custom Glass Pearls & Seed Bead Earrings

…and I still have to post these on Etsy.  Miles to go before I sleep…

Have a Cool Weekend,

~ Lori

A Friend of Mine…Joanne Graves

Hi Everyone,

How are you all doing This new week?  I hope you had a great weekend like I did!  I have a question for you.  Did you ever have a friend who would do anything to help you?  I have great friends!!! The best friends I have every had in my life have been the friends I have since transplant.  They are the kind of friends who will help you with anything but give you a good kick in the pants when you need it.  Joanne Graves is a friend like that.

Joanne took me to Hahnemann last week and it wasn’t the first time she has taken me to the hospital for check ups.  She is also helping me with a lot of details for my son’s Graduation party at Church coming up very soon.  I hope you have faithful friends like I do.  I try not to take them for granted.  Also, I try to reciprocate as much as possible but I have to tell you my friends appreciate me even when I can’t reciprocate.

I never had a lot of friends in school but I learned a principle.  If you want friends you have to be friendly.  So, I began trying to be friendly.  It worked!  People started smiling back at me when I smile at them.  Say hello and they will respond.  Put yourself out there and be friendly and you will be surprised how people respond especially in this world where everyone is too busy to be personal.  You may just make someone’s day with a smile.  Try it! What do you have to lose?  Then come back and tell me what happened.  I’m waiting to hear from you.

And to Joanne…Thank you so much for all your help and especially for your friendship.

Have a Great Week!

~Lori
